Rock Island (23-6) defeated Morris (16-15) in the semifinal round 61-49. The #6 state-ranked Rocks next meet #1 ranked Peoria Richwoods (26-2) in Friday night's championship tilt. The Knights escaped Morton in overtime (56-54) Tuesday night. Rocky is seeking back-to-back sectional crowns. The winner advances to the DeKalb Supersectional to play the winner of the Hampshire Sectional, featuring last season's state runner-up Oswego and DeKalb.
Class 4A
@ Pekin:
United Township (19-9) saw its season come to an end in the semifinals against Normal Community (22-9) 62-35. The Ironmen will take on O'Fallon (27-2) in Friday night's sectional championship game for a berth in the Normal Supersectional at ISU's Redbird Arena.
Local College Sports
-Baseball-
Monmouth College lost a pair of games against Rockford College in Mesa, Arizona. The Scots dropped the first game of the twinbill 15-2 and lost 11-6 in the second to see their record drop to 0-5.
Carl Sandburg College started the season 0-5 in Millington, TN. The Chargers were matched up against defending national champions Parkland, Muscatine, Iowa Central, St. Louis-Flo Valley, and Lakeland.
-Softball-
Monmouth College won one of four games in Tuscon. The Scots split a double-header with Baldwin Wallace College - losing the first game 10-5 then rebounding to win the finale 11-4. Monmouth suffered losses after the twinbill to Aquinas College 22-11 and Bellevue University 8-0. |
