Kansas Earns Top Overall Seed in NCAA Tournament
UNDATED (AP) _ Kansas, Kentucky, Duke and Syracuse have earned No. 1 seeds in the 65-team NCAA men's basketball tournament.

America's largest, three-week office pool starts getting sorted out Tuesday with an opening-round game between Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Winthrop. The tournament goes into full swing with 16 games both Thursday and Friday.

Kansas opens its tournament on Thursday as the top seed in the Midwest Region against Lehigh. The Midwest Region also includes second-seed Ohio State, No. 3 Georgetown and No. 4 Maryland.

Kentucky, the top seed in the East, opens Thursday in New Orleans against East Tennessee State. The East also includes second-seed West Virginia, No. 3 seed New Mexico and fourth-seed Wisconsin.

Duke, the top seed in the South, opens Friday against the winner of Tuesday's play-in game between Winthrop and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The South region also includes second-seed Villanova, third-seed Baylor and fourth-seed Purdue.

Syracuse, the top seed in the West, opens Friday against Vermont in a first-round game in Buffalo, N.Y. The West Region also includes second-seed Kansas State, third-seed Pittsburgh and No. 4 seed Vanderbilt. The Orange heads into the tourney on a two-game losing streak.

There are eight teams out of the Big East in the NCAA field and seven out of the Big 12.

Some of the notable teams out of the field are Memphis, Mississippi State, UAB, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Illinois, Ole Miss and Rhode Island.
