The Galesburg Silver Streaks varsity baseball team is set to open their season this weekend when they host an invitational at Jim Sundberg Field. The revised schedule shows the Streaks will play Rockford Guilford tomorrow morning at 9:45, then meet Washington at 3 o'clock.

HS Basketball The final weekend of March Madness in Illinois began at noon Friday, with the boy's class 3A semifinals. The Rock Island Rocks played the opening game, as the Western Big-6 Champions and defeated Chicago Brooks 55 to 36. Rock Island will take on Centralia Saturday for the state championship title.
NCAA Tourney Denver was the place for upsets on the first full day of the NCAA men's basketball tournament. The biggest upset so far in the brackets occurred there where 13th-seeded Morehead State beat No. 4 seed Louisville 62-61. Also 12th-seeded Richmond beat No. 5 seed Vanderbilt 69-66. Last nighy, 11th-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs stunned sixth-seed St. John's 86-71. Gonzaga gets BYU next. National player of the year candidate Jimmer Fredette, the nation's leading scorer, poured in 31 in leading third-seed BYU past Wofford (WAHF'-urd) 74-66.
The Big 10 Conference went 1-2 on opening day, as UCLA saw a 23-point lead go down to one before the Bruins escaped with a 78-76 with over Michigan State. Earlier in the evening, Wisconsin dispatched Belmont 72-58. And Penn State fell to Temple 66-64. Tonight, Illinois meets UNLV in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
