PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- Rock Island hit its free throws late, sealing a 50-40 double-overtime win against Centralia in the Class 3A championship game of the IHSA Boys Basketball State Finals.
After teammates missed four straight free throws late in the first overtime, Royce Muskeyvalley knocked down two with 12 seconds remaining that forced a second extra period. Then the Rocks made eight of their last 10 from the line to seal the school's first boys basketball title.
R.J. Kwiatkowski scored 15 and Bryan Betts added 13 to lead Centralia (30-5). Betts also grabbed six rebounds, as did Tyler Obermeier.
Randle led the Rocks (30-3) in scoring with 13 points, Romal Davis chipped in 10 and Denzel McCauley and Muskeyvalley both finished with nine points. McCauley hauled in 17 rebounds. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
