Barney Celebrates Cubs' Roster Spot With 2 Hits
MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- Darwin Barney, told he made the Chicago Cubs' roster for opening day, hit a two-run triple and singled Thursday in an 8-7 win over the Chicago White Sox.

The rookie second baseman also turned a pair of double plays.

Alfonso Soriano homered for the Cubs. Omar Vizquel, Donny Lucy and Alexei Ramirez homered for the White Sox.

Cubs starter Matt Garza worked five innings, giving up eight hits and three runs.

The Cubs scored seven runs against Phil Humber, the No. 5 starter for the White Sox.
