| Season Ends, Uncertainty Just Starting for Illini |
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Coach Bruce Weber says he saw the best his Illinois team had to offer over the season's final weeks. It ended with an NCAA tournament win over UNLV and a competitive loss to No. 1-seed Kansas.
Illinois' season, though, ended with uncertainty. The Illini lose four starters from a 20-14 team. The only scholarship senior on next year's team is likely to be point guard Sam Maniscalco, who intends to transfer from Bradley.
In a season-ending news conference yesterday, Weber said freshman forward Jereme Richmond is practicing with the team and should be with the Illini next season if there are no further problems.
Richmond would be a potential starter but sat out the NCAA tournament over disciplinary issues. That led to speculation that he might transfer. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
