March Madness continues in Illinois Tuesday with supersectional games on tap in the boys small schools tournaments. The Class 1A game in Jacksonville features the Orion Chargers against Winchester, while the 2A game in DeKalb has Chillicothe IVC facing Rockford Christian.
The class 3A sectional in Peoria will be played at the new Renaissance Coliseum at Bradley. Undefeated and top-ranked Peoria Notre Dame will play Peoria Central there Tuesday, while Rock Island will battle Morris Wednesday evening.
The class 4A sectional in Moline will be played at Whartan Fieldhouse, where Alton and East St. Louis will meet Turesday. The homestanding Moline Maroons will play Wednesday night against Normal Community.
A pair of Mid-Illini Conference teams are still alive at the Decatur Sectional, where Washington plays Springfield Southeast Tuesday, and Morton sqaures off with Champaign Centennial on Wednesday.
The Monmouth College Fighting Scots baseball and softball teams are spending the week in Florida with some early-season competition against schools from around the nation. The Scots softball team began the season Monday by splitting a pair of games, losing to Lebanon Valley 5-4, then defeating Lesley 10-5.
New Galesburg High School football coach Tim Dougherty has reportedly made some decisions regarding his coaching staff for the upcoming season. Most of the assistants from the previous years under former coach Wes Olsen will be retained, while former Silver Streaks and Monmouth College head coach Kelly Kane and former GHS quarterback Mark Reed will be coming on board as unpaid assistants to help guide the team this fall.
