| Woodlawn Wins Class 1A 3rd Place |
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- Dawson Verhines scored 19 and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Woodlawn to a 52-37 win over Deer Creek-Mackinaw in the Class 1A third-place game at the IHSA Boys Basketball finals.
Gabe Owens added 11 points for Woodlawn (30-4) on Saturday, Josh Wiggs nine and A.J. Webb had five points, five rebounds and five steals.
A run by Deer Creek-Mackinaw (25-7) to end the second quarter and begin the third cut a 14-point Woodlawn lead to just four midway through the third frame. But Woodlawn, which shot 50 percent for the game while holding the Chiefs to just 20 percent, ran off 10 unanswered points to end the quarter and grab hold of the game.
Matt Krause scored 13 to pace the Chiefs, who also received six points from Max Siebert.
