| Newark Wins Class 1A Title |
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- Newark had four players in double figures as it ran away with the Class 1A state title game, beating Winchester West Central, 57-35, at the IHSA Boys Basketball finals.
John Avery scored 17 points, Brett Anderson 12, Kyle Anderson 11 and Jeremy Anderson added 10 as the Norsemen (33-1) built a big lead early and never wavered, extending the advantage each of the first three quarters.
And they shared the ball, handing out assists on each of their first 12 baskets in the game before finishing with 14 on 19 field goals.
Kyle Anderson had nine of the Norsemen's 15 steals.
Led by 13 points from Wes Buhlig, the Cougars (30-5) didn't shoot the ball well, hitting just 32 percent from the field. They were outrebounded 25-11 by the Norsemen. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
