Looper Looking to Make Cubs' Rotation
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Braden Looper pitched into the fourth inning in his first start of spring training and allowed a run on five hits as a Chicago Cubs split squad beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-5 Sunday.

Out of baseball last year after having surgery to repair a torn meniscus after the 2009 season, Looper struck out two in 3 2-3 innings. He made relief appearances against the Rangers and Rockies before this start.

Looper also helped his cause by going 2 for 2, including a RBI double in the fourth inning.

First baseman Carlos Pena hit his second homer of the spring in the fourth off Arizona starter Daniel Hudson.

Hudson surrendered three hits, four runs, two earned, walked one and struck out 4 in 3 1-3 innings.
