|JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- Kyle McClellan made another strong statement in his bid for the St. Louis Cardinals' vacant starting spot, allowing one hit in five scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday.
Derek Lowe also was stingy in a five-inning stint, giving up a run on four hits. But the Braves were held to three hits for a two-game total of one run on five hits with five errors, four of them on Tuesday.
Before the two-game series, the Braves had won four in a row and outscored opponents 27-3.
Skip Schumaker had two hits and three RBIs for St. Louis with a two-run single off Scott Proctor to cap a three-run sixth that made it 4-0. The runs were unearned after first baseman Freddie Freeman couldn't handle Yadier Molina's liner for an error.
