|First-Round NCAA Winners Include...Harvard?
|SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- It's a school known for producing U.S. presidents, Supreme Court justices and Nobel Prize winners.
And now, Harvard has produced its first NCAA basketball tournament victory, with an upset of third-seeded New Mexico last night in Salt Lake City.
The 14th-seeded Crimson pulled off the biggest surprise of March Madness so far with the 68-to-62 win. It comes against a team that was expected to advance deep into the tournament.
Harvard senior Christian Webster calls it the "number-one moment" in his career, and said the team showed "a lot of toughness."
The school's most famous basketball alum, the NBA's Jeremy Lin, tweeted in celebration, adding, "I told you."
The jokesters at Harvard Lampoon tweeted, "America, we are sorry for messing up your brackets and also your financial system and everything else."
