Quincy Notre Dame Wins 3A Girls Basketball Title
NORMAL, Ill. (AP) -- Kassidy Gengenbacher scored 20 points to lead Quincy Notre Dame to its third straight state title with a 62-45 win against Vernon Hills in the IHSA Class 3A girls basketball state finals Saturday.

The Raiders (30-0) led throughout after opening a 9-0 lead to start the game and the Cougars (31-3) never got closer than four after that.

Kristen Gengenbacher scored 14 for the Raiders and three-time all-state center Jordan Frericks chipped in 14 points despite being in foul trouble for much of the game.

Lauren Webb scored 17 points and grabbed 10 boards for the Cougars, who outrebounded Notre Dame. But 20 turnovers ultimately cost Vernon Hills any chance of winning. Sydney Smith and Meri Bennet-Swanson each had eight points for the Cougars.

Notre Dame won the first two of three straight titles in Class 2A before moving up to 3A this season.
