High School Baseball

Knoxville beat Peoria Heights 5-4. Jon Vanfleet was the winning pitcher for the Blue Bullets. He went the distance and scattered three hits. Chris Adolphson singled in Brett Walker for the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning. Nick Putnam had two of Knoxville's five hits.

Abingdon scored eight runs in the fifth inning and defeated Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon 15-4

Monmouth-Roseville made quick work of Stark County in a 10-0 win. The Titans (6-1) plated eight runs in the first inning and added two more in the bottom half of the third. B.J. Salyers earned the win on the mound. He tossed three shutout innings, surrendering three hits and striking out six. Nate Farm led the offensive attack for the Titans with three hits and three runs batted in.

Galva-Williamsfield ace Alex Ott struck out 19 batters to lead the Wildcats (6-10) to a 4-1 victory against Bureau Valley. Brady Landis led G-W with three hits.

Ridgewood got by Kewanee 8-7

North Fulton shut out Lewistown (6-6) 13-0. Brandon Shaw struck out 13 on the mound for the Wildcats (8-4) and allowed just three hits to earn the win. North Fulton had 20 hits against Indians pitching. Johnny Davis had four hits and an RBI, Jesse Shaw drove three runs and Brandon Shaw drove home two runs for the Wildcats.


High School Softball

Williamsfield lost to Princeville 16-9. Taylor Gladfelter had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Bombers.

United's Katie Bertelsen tossed a one-hitter and struck out 14 as the Red Storm (10-2) blanked Mercer County 10-0. Augusta Chandler tripled and drove in three runs to pace the Red Storm offense.

Ridgewood beat Monmouth-Roseville 16-4

Bureau Valley downed Galva 6-1


Boys Tennis

It's been a difficult season for Galesburg High School's varsity squad.

Though they have played some competitive matches, they have not earned a dual meet victory. The string of losses continued Wednesday as they dropped 7-2 decision at Geneseo.

Brandon Meeker provided a bright spot for the Streaks as he won his number one singles match and teamed up with Thad Santos to capture number one doubles. The results follow: singles - #1. Meeker (GA) def. Taylor Mighell 7-6(7-3), 6-1; #2. Blake Croegaert (GE) def. Caleb Thompson 6-3, 6-1; #3. Max Hurliman (GE) def. Santos 6-4, 6-2; #4. Daniel Rowley (GE) def. Tyler Bond 6-3, 6-2; #5. Josh Ward (GE) def. Calvin Shipplett 7-5, 6-4; #6. Shawn DePauw (GE) def. Evan Melhus 6-0, 6-1; doubles - #1. Meeker and Santos (GA) def. Croegaert and Rowley 6-4, 6-1; #2. Mighell and DePauw (GE) def. Bond and Thompson 6-2, 6-4; #3. Ward and Hurliman (GE) def. Shipplett and Melhus 6-4, 7-6(7-2).

In the junior varsity match, the Streaks made it two wins in row, defeating Geneseo 6-3. Winners for GHS were: Maury Cohn, Noel Puthenveetil, Nathan Fitch, Seth Herr and Ben Whittle. Christopher Willis and Herr also scored a doubles victory.

Galesburg plays its first home dual of the season Thursday against Morton.

College Softball

Augustana College swept Monmouth College 4-3 and 9-1 in Rock Island. The losses drop the Fighting Scots' record to 8-14.
