| Holiday Homers; Cardinals Beat D-Backs in Series Opener |
PHOENIX (AP) -- Matt Holliday went 3 for 5 with his fourth home run of the season, Brad Penny had his third strong outing and the St. Louis Cardinals opened a six-game road trip by handing the Arizona Diamondbacks their fifth loss in a row 4-2 Monday night. The go-ahead run came eighth inning on Colby Rasmus' double, followed two batters later by a fielding error by Arizona first baseman Adam LaRoche. Rasmus singled in a run off struggling Chad Qualls in the ninth. Penny (2-0) threw six scoreless innings after the Diamondbacks scored twice in the first. Holliday's two-run homer off Arizona starter Rodrigo Lopez tied it in the fifth. Ryan Franklin tossed a perfect ninth for his fifth save in five opportunities.
