| Illini Look for New QB; Scheelhaase Stands Out |
CHAMPIGN, Ill. (AP) -- The coaches who have a hand in the decision say they haven't settled yet on Juice Williams' successor at Illinois.
But it sounds like first-year offensive coordinator Paul Petrino is starting to make up his mind.
Petrino says redshirt freshman Nathan Scheelhaase is already a team leader. The coach says the young quarterback has something that makes people want to follow him.
Scheelhaase is competing with sophomore Jacob Charest and freshman Chandler Whitmer for the starting job.
Charest started one game last fall and played in four. It isn't known if that experience gives him an edge.
Head coach Ron Zook says both have at times looked like the right choice to start.
