| QB's Struggle in Illini Spring Game |
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois junior running backs Mikel Leshoure and Jason Ford combined for 228 rushing yards to lead the Orange squad to a 24-6 win over the Blue in the Illinois Orange and Blue Spring Game.
Leshoure ran for 129 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday, including a 75-yard score late in the third quarter. Ford rushed for 99 yards, including a 56-yard score.
Illinois' quarterback play was shaky as head coach Ron Zook looks for a replacement for four-year starter Juice Williams. Redshirt freshman Nathan Scheelhaase is the leading candidate to replace Williams. Scheelhaase passed for 126 yards and two interceptions.
Redshirt sophomore Jacob Charest also threw two interceptions and freshman Chandler Whitmer passed for 43 yards and a touchdown.
Illinois was 3-9 last season. The team kicks off the 2010 season Sept. 4 versus Missouri in St. Louis. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
