|Knox Basketball Shooting School Scheduled in May
|Young basketball players from the area who need some work on their shot can still sign up for a camp that exclusively teaches the art of shooting the basketball.
The Knox Basketball Shooting School campers, boys and girls in sixth through eighth grade, will gain maximum repetitions of shots, along with first-class shooting instruction with emphasis on technique. Coaches will stress the fundamentals of shooting the ball correctly, as well as proper footwork when receiving a pass. The Knox Basketball Shooting School is a unique opportunity for boys and girls basketball players to work closely with our qualified and experienced camp staff.
The camp will take place for four weeks on Sunday and Wednesday evenings, starting Sunday, May 2nd and ending Wednesday May 26th (Camp will take place on Monday, May 10th instead of the 9th due to Mother's Day weekend).
Each camper will receive eight lessons. The cost is $85 and includes a camp t-shirt. The camp will take place in Memorial Gymnasium on the Knox College campus in Galesburg.
DISCOUNT: Campers who attended the fall session can submit their discount card with the registration form to receive $10 off the spring camp.
Evan Massey - Head Girls Basketball Coach at Galesburg High School
Galesburg legend Evan Massey has won nearly 700 games in his 31-year coaching career. He has had 21 seasons with 20 or more wins. He also won 18 consecutive regional championships and nine straight sectional championships. Massey's teams have made the IHSA Final Four five times and he's a member of the IBCA Hall of Fame. Coach Massey was named the 2009 National High School Athletic Coaches Association Girls Basketball Coach of the Year.
Rob Purlee - Head Men's Basketball Coach at Knox College
Rob Purlee is currently one of the youngest head college basketball coaches in the country. Purlee attended Mt. Carroll High School and finished as one of the school's all-time scoring leaders with 1,581 points. He attended Monmouth College, where he was a star basketball and football player and was named the 2005 Midwest Conference Player of the Year in football. He was an assistant basketball coach at Monmouth College for two seasons before coming to Knox College for two years as an assistant men's basketball coach. He took over as the head coach of Knox College in 2008.
Bobby Wheet - Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Knox College
Bobby Wheet is entering his second season on the Knox College coaching staff. Wheet came to Knox from Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, where he served as an assistant for one season. Prior to Hartwick, Wheet served as a student assistant coach at Central College in Pella, Iowa.
Camp Dates: May 2nd, 5th, 10th, 12th, 16th, 19th, 23rd, and 26th.
Time: 7:30 to 9:00 PM
