| Monmouth College's Hinkle Named MWC Performer of Week |
Monmouth College's Robbie Hinkle was in a zone last Saturday and earned the Midwest Conference Position Player of the Week award.
Hinkle, a physical education major from Galesburg, got physical and used his bat and his arm to help propel the Fighting Scots to an 8-1, 12-2 sweep of Knox College to stay alive in the bid for a conference tournament berth.
Hinkle drove in four of the Scots' first five runs with a pair of doubles in his first two at-bats in Game 1 Saturday and finished the game with three doubles on 4-of-5 hitting.
The junior then took to the mound in Game 2 and fanned nine, walked two and gave up five hits in the game shortened by the mercy rule. Hinkle also helped himself at the plate where he went 3-for-4 with another double, a homer and four more RBIs.
In the two game set, Hinkle was 7-for-9 with four doubles, a home run, eight RBIs and four runs scored. His slugging percentage on the day was a robust 1.555.
In a non-conference loss to Illinois Wesleyan last Wednesday, Hinkle drove in a run with his lone hit.
For the week, Hinkle hit .667 with nine RBIs and a slugging percentage of 1.250.
