Local Sports Roundup -- 4/3/10

A number of games Saturday were called off due to wet grounds following the rains of Friday. Among them, the Galesburg High School Streaks Baseball Invitational, GHS Sophomore Baseball at Canton, GHS Varsity and J/V Softball at Peoria Richwoods, Knoxville High School Baseball at South Fulton, Monmouth-Roseville Baseball against Sherrard, and Monmouth-Roseville Softball against Williamsfield. The Monmouth-Roseville games are expected to be rescheduled. It's not clear if the others will be.

Both Galesburg's Boys and Girls track teams placed third at the eight-team Shipley Invitational in Moline Saturday. The Boys had first place finishes in the 3200 Meter Run (Mike Darling), the 4x800 Meter Relay (Will Remmes, Beau Salsman, Shay Hostens, Luke Junk), the 4X400 Meter Relay (Josh Thomas, Salsman, Grant Boydstun, Remmes) the High Jump (Justin Davidson), three divisions of the Long Jump (Travon Diggins, Davidson, Bailee Ricketts), and two divisions of the Triple Jump (Bailee Ricketts, Drexler Blue). For the Girls, first place finishes came in the 4X800 Meter Relay (Stephanie Saey, Dorothy Mangieri, Hanna Hawkins, Kaylin Gehring), the 4X200 Meter Relay (Cierra Latta, Sharron Diggins, Kenzie Payton, Rainee Sibley), the 4X400 Meter Relay (Becca Ladner, Hawkins, Payton, Bailey Jackson), the Shot Put (Myra Diggins), the Discus (Myra Diggins), and the Triple Jump (Jackson).


Galesburg High School's Brandon Meeker placed fifth place in singles competition at the Rock Island Boys Tennis Invitational Saturday. Meeker lost his first match, then won his second two. The Streaks placed 8th at the 8-team invitational.


The Knox College Men's Golf team placed 14th overall out of 28 teams at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational Saturday. Bobby Stuebi, a sophomore from Western Springs, Illinois (Lyons Township) tied for 16th overall with a score of 155, just 11 over par.
