| UCONN Women's Basketball Team Beats Stanford for Seventh Championship |
SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ No Final Four team in history had ever scored fewer points in the first half than Connecticut. The best defense in NCAA tournament history helped the Huskies' overcome their offensive woes. The Huskies scored a record-low 12 points in the first half against Stanford Tuesday night, but defense never let the game get out of hand and then it helped spark the rally that carried UConn to a 53-47 win and seventh championship. UConn held Stanford to five points in the first 11 minutes of the second half, one last suffocating performance in the tournament filled with them for the Huskies. The Huskies allowed 43 points a game in the tournament, topping the 2007 Tennessee team that gave up 47.3 points in its title run.
