|High School Baseball
Galesburg snapped a two-game losing streak in the first game of the Early Tournament at Sundberg Field.
The Silver Streaks scored five runs in the third inning and rolled to an 11-5 victory against Pekin. Zack McCrery and Chad Johnson had three hits apiece for the Silver Streaks (3-4). Johnson and Dalton Davis both hit home runs in the win. Galesburg banged out 13 hits against the Dragons, who had 7.
Nick Milligan earned the win on the mound for GHS, tossing five innings. He surrendered five hits, two earned runs and struck out three.
The Streak sophomore team moved to 7-0 on the season with a 9-2 win against East Peoria. Luke Ryan homered for one of his two hits and drove in three runs and Zach Riley went deep and had two RBIs to lead the offense. Austin Gernant earned the win on the mound.
The other varsity game played in tournament was a slugfest won by United Township against Canton 12-10. The tourney resumes Friday at Sundberg Field and the East diamond on the Galesburg High School campus. Galesburg plays in the semifinal game at 7:30 p-m.
Havana defeated Farmington 18-7 in six innings
Brimfield/Elmwood downed Illini Bluffs 8-4
West Hancock scored a 15-12 victory against South Fulton
High School Softball
United (8-1) handed Abingdon (7-1) its first loss of the season. Katie Bertlesen no-hit the Commandos in a 9-1 victory.
Knoxville shut out North Fulton 2-0. Sophomore pitcher McKenzie DeJaynes made her first varsity start for the Blue Bullets (4-3), blanking the Wildcats over three innings on three hits. Andrea Wilhite pitched the last four innings and struck out 10 to earn the win. Wilhite also had two hits at the plate with an RBI. North Fulton was held to four hits in the game.
West Central plated six first-inning runs and beat Williamsfield 12-2 in five innings
Havana downed Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon 3-1
South Fulton edged Lewistown 9-8
Princeville blanked Kewanee 12-0 in five innings
Stark County got past Henry 10-7
High School Girls Soccer
Galesburg defeated Orion 2-1. All three goals scored in the match were in the second half. Tai Peachey and Allie Blake found the net for the Silver Streaks (2-1). Sarah Katchen had six saves in goal.
