High School Softball
Abingdon beat Galva 4-1. Beep Jones had three hits to lead the Commandos offense and Kelsey Sharp, who contributed two hits at the plate, also pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts to earn the win for Abingdon, which improved to 9-1 on the season.
South Fulton (7-1) swept Knoxville (6-5) in a doubleheader 5-4, 5-3
Sherrard swept Monmouth-Roseville (2-7) 31-0 and 18-2 in an Olympic Conference doubleheader
Riverdale defeated Ridgewood 9-4
Havana scored five runs in the third inning and went on to beat Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon 9-1. Katie Lopez drove in the Spartans' lone run and Kaitlin Akers took the loss in the circle for B-PC/A (2-6). Sam Ellsworth led the Ducks (5-3) with two hits and three RBIs and Maddie Martindale picked up the win in the circle by throwing a complete game six-hitter with 11 strikeouts.
North Fulton beat Peoria Christian 4-3 on Courtney McKown's single in the bottom of the eighth inning. McKown also earned the win with 5 2/3 innings pitched and six strikeouts.
High School Track and Field
Rolling up 143 1/2 team points, Galesburg High School's varsity girls track and field team turned in a strong performance while capturing the 2010 Silver Streak Invitational title. The Silver Streaks won seven events, including three of the four relays in the meet. Moline, last year's champion, finished second with 79 points and Geneseo was third with 72 1/2. Senior Bailey Jackson won both the long and triple jumps to lead the way for GHS in the individual events.
High School Tennis
Galesburg lost to Sterling 6-3. The Silver Streaks' junior varsity team won 8-1. |
