Former ROWVA boys basketball coach Bob Meredith will be inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame this weekend. Meredith said he didn't take the direct route into coaching.
"I love basketball, played basketball in high school,' Meredith said. "My coach in high school said, 'don't go into coaching; it'll break your heart.' So, I went on to ISU, and was there for a year, majored in business. Then, went from there, down to Chillicothe, Missouri. It's kind of like Robert Morris. It's a business college, but a junior college schedule. I played ball down there. Went into the service, came back, and played at Eureka College for three years, and changed my mind. But I still got my major in business. And I worked four years in business after graduating Eureka College. Then, I came into the coaching ranks and teaching."
Bob posted a career coaching record of 367 wins against 223 losses in his 23 years at ROWVA, including the TIgers second place finish at the 1976 class A state tournament. Bob also coached at LeRoy for 7 seasons, adding another 155 victories there. He's a member of the Eureka College Hall of Fame for excellance in his playing career. Induction ceremonies into the IBCA shrine will be this Saturday in Bloomington. |
