| Hawks Need Others to Step Up with Hinrich Injury |
ATLANTA (AP) -- The Atlanta Hawks haven't won a second-round playoff game in 14 years. Their odds of ending that dismal streak became a lot more daunting when Kirk Hinrich collapsed on the court, holding his right leg.
Hinrich brings the sort of leadership and lockdown defense the Hawks needed against MVP favorite Derrick Rose and the top-seeded Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Game 1 is Monday night. The Hawks held a lengthy practice Saturday, trying to come up with a way to deal with the expected loss of Hinrich. He was hurt in the closing minutes of the clinching victory over Orlando, sustaining a ``significant'' hamstring strain that makes him doubtful for this round.
Second-year guard Jeff Teague will likely have to play a bigger role. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
