| Bears Players Roach, Paea Win Piccolo Awards |
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) -- Chicago Bears linebacker Nick Roach and defensive tackle Stephen Paea are the winners of this year's Brian Piccolo awards. The team and the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund announced the winners Tuesday. The awards go to players who reflect the courage, loyalty, teamwork and dedication of late Bears player Brian Piccolo. The award has gone to a rookie every year since 1970 and was extended to include a veteran player in 1992. Piccolo died in 1970 at age 26 from embryonal cell carcinoma. Previous winners include Mike Singletary, Jim McMahon, Brian Urlacher and Devin Hester.
