St. Louis Tent Collapse Raises Safety Questions
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The toppling of one of several large beer tents that cater to overflow bar crowds before and after St. Louis sporting events is raising questions over their safety.

A fast-moving storm about an hour after the Cardinals' 7-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday ripped the tent outside Kilroy's Sports Bar from its moorings. One of the roughly 200 people inside was killed and at least 17 others were treated at hospitals.

City Building Commissioner Frank Oswald says the bar was granted a tent permit on April 11 and it passed inspection a couple of days later. But he says the city requires tents to withstand up to 90 mph winds and authorities estimate that Saturday's gusts were about 50 mph.
