Three of the area high school baseball teams will host non-conference games this afternoon. In Abingdon, the Commandos will play the Macomb Bombers. Abingdon figures to have a tougher time that they did yesterday, when they destroyed B-PC/Avon 27-0 in a game called after 4-and-a-half innings. In Knoxville, the Blue Bullets welcome Mercer County, and in Monmouth, the Titans will play Riverdale. The Galesburg Silver Streaks are practicing ahead of tomorrow's doubleheader showdown at Rock Island Alleman. Alleman is leading the Western Big-6 standings at 6-0, while the Silver Streaks are 5-1.
The GHS softball team is playing again this afternoon, as they will be tested on the road at Farmington. The Silver Streaks fell yesterday at Sherrard 7-5. Also on the softball schedule for today, Knoxville hosts United.
Track and Field
The Galesburg track and field teams are headed east for meets today. The boys are running at the Sterling Relays, while the girls are involved in the East Peoria Meet of Champions.
The Carl Sandburg Chargers baseball team will play for the third straight day, as they travel to Kankakee. Both the Sandburg baseball and softball teams got swept in doubleheaders yesterday. Elsewhere, the Knox baseball team continues its pursuit of the south division title in the Midwest Conference. The Prairie Fire will travel north tomorrow for a pair of games with the Lawrence Vikings.
