A late-week warm-up in temperatures should make for happier players, coaches, and fans of area baseball and softball teams. On the schedule today, United hosts Ridgewood and Galva/Williamsfield welcomes Princeville for baseball-softball doubleheaders. Other area softball games include Knoxville hosting South Fulton and Monmouth-Roseville traveling to Abingdon. The baseball schedule shows ROWVA playing at West Central, and Abingdon hosting South Fulton. Abingdon Commandos head coach Jeremy Pickrel, who is a former Galesburg Silver Streak and played three years in the minor leagues with the Minnesota Twins.

Coach Pickrel also recognizes that this is an historic season, with the coming merger with Avon and the subsequent change of the school's athletic nickname.

Abingdon is coming off of an 8-3 win over West Central yesterday.

Area soccer fields are also beginning to dry out, and so the Galesburg Silver Streaks girls will host United Township this evening. The Streaks have won their last two outings against Canton and Sherrard.
