The Galesburg Silver Streaks (18-13) took home the title at the Pontiac Baseball Classic Saturday, defeating Roanoke Benson 14-4, and Herscher 7-4.

HIGH SCHOOL TRACK
The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls track team is the IHSA Class 2A Sectionl Champions. The Streaks go to state thanks to their performance at the Rock Island Sectional Saturday. The Streaks scored 87 team points to take the title, followed by Peoria Richwoods, Peoria Notre Dame, Metamora, and Rock Island. 12 Streaks individuals are also heading to the State meet in Charleston, including qualifiers in the Discus, Long Jump, Triple Jump, 3200 Meter Run, the 4X800 Meter Relay, 4X200 Meter Relay, the Shot Put, the 1600 Meter Run, and the 4X400 Meter Relay.
HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS
The Silver Streaks Boys Tennis Team placed fourth in the Western Big 6 Conference Tennis Tournament at GHS Saturday. Moline won the conference championship.
COLLEGE TRACK
Monmouth College took both the men's and women's titles at the Midwest Conference Track Meet Friday and Saturday at Illinois College. Knox College placed sixth on the women's side, and 8th on the men's side. Monmouth Coach Roger Haynes took Coach of the Year Honors in both divisions. Monmouth College stars Gloria Lehr and Amanda Streeter shared Performer of the Year honors in Field events with Melissa Norville of Illinois College. Tyler Hannam took Field Performer of the Year honors for the Scots on the men's side, while Luke Reschke got the honor in Track events. Emma Swanson and Kevin Box earned All Conference honors for Knox College.
FISHING
The annual Galesburg Youth Fishing Derby is Sunday at the Lincoln Park Lagoon. The event is free for youth 15 and under, and prizes will be given in several categories. A casting competition is at 11am with registration for fishing at noon. |
