Local Sports Roundup -- 5/27/10

The Galesburg Silver Streaks got past East Peoria 3-2 Thursday night at the Class 3A Bartonville Regional. Tyler Farrell got the win for the Streaks, while Nick Milligan ended the game throwing just three pitches. The Streaks (23-13) will play Limestone at 11am Saturday in the Regional final.

ROWVA advances to the Jacksonville Class 1A Sectional championship on Saturday, after defeating Argenta-Oreana Thursday 5-2. Dylan Reid picked up the win by giving up 1 hit, 2 runs, and seven walks, and seven strikeouts, but also hit two home runs while driving in five himself. ROWVA will play either Hartsburg-Emden or Jacksonville Routt. They square off Friday.


Knoxville Sectional

The United Red Storm go on to Saturday's Knoxville Sectional championship, beating Orion Thursday 3-0. Star pitcher Katie Bertelsen, battling through back injuries, struck out eight and walked four. Gina Long led the Red Storm going 2 for 3, with a run scored, a double, and a triple. United plays Illini Blufs Saturday at 11am.

Several area athletes advanced to the finals at the IHSA Class 1A State Track Meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon/West Prairie's Nathaniel Marshall advanced in Discus with a throw of 163-feet, 6 inches. United's Scott Duncan advanced in the High Jump with a leap of 6-feet, 3 inches. And Knoxville's Heath Byom goes on to the finals with a 42-feet, 5 inch effort in the Triple Jump.


Galesburg High School's Brandon Meeker will take on David Bacalla of Niles North in the IHSA State Tennis Tournament this weekend at Hoffman Estates.
