| Zambrano Heads Back to Starting Rotation |
CHICAGO (AP) -- Carlos Zambrano will return to the Chicago Cubs' starting rotation Wednesday at Pittsburgh.
Cubs manager Lou Piniella announced the move before Sunday's game against St. Louis. Zambrano will replace left-hander Tom Gorzelanny, who will move to the bullpen for relief duty.
Zambrano is 1-3 with a 6.12 ERA, and just 1-2 in four starts with a 7.45 ERA. He joined the bullpen on April 22.
Gorzelanny is 2-5 with a 3.66 ERA in nine starts.
Piniella said the Cubs also plan to call up highly touted right-hander Andrew Cashner from Triple-A Iowa to work out of the bullpen. The club's first-round pick in 2008 is 6-1 with a 2.05 ERA in nine starts and two relief appearances at Double-A Tennessee and Iowa. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
