United 4, Forreston 0
United is heading back to state for the third straight year and the Red Storm will meet a familiar foe from Southern Illinois that's been a nemesis.
Katie Bertelsen struck out 16 and no-hit Forreston (25-14) as United (30-5) advances to the state semifinals against Cobden. Gina Long and Michelle Ravel had two hits apiece for United. Ravel and Kaitlyn Winkler both homered for the Red Storm.
The Appleknockers defeated Toledo Cumberland 10-2 in the Fairfield Supersectional. Cobden beat the Red Storm in the last two Class 1A state championship games. The two teams square off Friday at 9:30 a-m in the first semifinal game at EastSide Centre in East Peoria.
The other state semifinal match-up is Serena taking on Lebanon Friday at Noon. The winners advance to the championship game Saturday at Noon. The third place game is at 9:30 Saturday morning.
Lewistown's season came to an end. Lebanon beat the Indians 11-0 in the Raymond Lincolnwood Supersectional to advance to Friday's state semifinals. At Gibson City, Serena moved on to state with a 2-1 win against Downs Tri-Valley.
