| United to Celebrate Thursday with Student-Athlete Letter of Intent Signings, Softball Field Dedication |
The United High School sports program celebrates several accomplishments on Thursday. The Red Storm softball team, the Class 1A state runner-ups the past two seasons that has a good shot at getting back to the state semifinals again this year, dedicates its new home field. The ceremony takes place prior to United's Lincoln Trail Conference game against Princeville. The Red Storm defeated the Princes on Wednesday 6-0 as Katie Bertelsen tossed a three-hit shutout with 18 strikeouts and Sommer Foster homered. United is the #1 seed West Prairie Regional that begins on May 17th. Two Red Storm football players will sign letters of intent after accepting scholarship offers to attend Culver Stockton College. Anton Kozelichki and Sheldon Welch will be joined by the Wildcats' head coach Cam Keller when they sign at 9:30 Thursday morning at United High School. Kozelichki and Welch were members of last season's Red Storm team that advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 1A playoffs and finished with a 10-2 record. Also signing on Thursday is United volleyball standout Mollie Murdock. Murdock, who will attend Monmouth College, was a big part of one of the state's perennial powers under coach Donn Damos. |
