|CSC Men's Golf Team Wins Arrowhead Conference Title
|Carl Sandburg College's men's golf team is enjoying a season like no other.
The Chargers, leading the Arrowhead Conference by three points going into Friday's season-ending conference match hosted by Sauk Valley College at Emerald Hills Golf Course in Sterling, placed 2nd to Blackhawk (310) with a score of 317. That allowed the Chargers to win their first-ever Arrowhead Conference title.
CSC finished conference play with a total of 22 points, two points ahead of league favorite Blackhawk. Luke Kane led the way with a score of 78 on a day that featured 30 mile per hour wind gusts.
Chris Neal and Kyle McEwen both fired 79s for Carl Sandburg College. Andrew Ledford carded an 81 and Jordan Lieber shot an 88. Ledford, the team's captain and lone sophomore, finished his last conference championship by placing second individually. The other all-conference players for the Chargers were Neal (4th), Kane (5th) and Jordan Lieber (11th).
Sandburg advances to the national tournament, which runs May 18th through the 24th in Phoenix, Arizona. It will be the first national tournament appearance for CSC in the history of the men's golf program.
Coach K.C. Harding says the team deserved the championship and the right to move on to play in Arizona. "I couldn't be any happier for the guys. Its quite an accomplishment to be the first team to win a conference championship in the college's history," Harding said. "That is something to be very proud of (and) now we need to concentrate on the national tournament."
