Southern Illinois Golf Standout Signs with CSC
A golfer from southern Illinois who had a solid senior season on the links is heading to Galesburg to play golf for Carl Sandburg College.

CSC coach K.C. Harding says Jimmy Sherrod of Harrisburg will be part the 2010-11 men's golf team roster.

"I feel that Carl Sandburg College offers me a great opportunity to excel in golf," Sherrod said. "After researching many schools and being offered other scholarships, I felt as if Sandburg fits my needs the best, and would allow me the opportunity to get a quality education while being allowed the chance to advance in golf. I would like to thank everyone at Carl Sandburg College for giving me this great opportunity."

Sherrod, a senior at Harrisburg High School, placed fourth in the Illinois High School Association Regional and third in this year's Class A Sectionals.

"Jimmy is the type of kid any coach would want. He is very dedicated and loves to practice," Harding said. "This has been a great recruiting year for me. These kids are choosing a good time to make CSC their choice for continuing their education."

Carl Sandburg College last week claimed its first Arrowhead Conference men's golf championship and qualified for the national tournament - another first for the program. The tournament begins next Tuesday in Phoenix, Arizona.
