| Scots Trying to Make Cut at National Tourney |
The Monmouth College men's golf team has its eye on playing more in Pennsylvania during the NCAA Division III championships. The Fighting Scots began play Wednesday tied for 14th, well above the cut line - which is the top 23 teams that qualify for the finals Thursday and Friday. Monmouth combined to shoot a 313 on Tuesday. That's 18 strokes behind the leader Skidmore Colege. The team teed off Wednesday morning on the Hershey Country Club Course. Senior Ryan Harvey began the second round tied for 29th to lead Monmouth's Day 1 charge. He checked in with a 76. Junior Rodney Clayton is tied for 39th with a 77. Ryan Tapscott and Sean McNamara rounded out Monmouth's scoring in the first round. Tapscott, a senior, shot a 79 and the sophomore McNamara carded a first round 81. Only the top 23 teams and five individuals not part of a qualifying team will advance to the final two rounds. Monmouth will have to make the cut in order to improve on last year's 23rd-place finish. |
