| Michigan State Baseball Settles for Share of Conference Title |
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Jack Havey hit three doubles, including one in the seventh inning that drove in the go-ahead run, and Northwestern beat Michigan State 6-5 on Saturday, preventing the Spartans from winning the Big Ten title outright.
Michigan State had already clinched a share of its first conference championship since 1979, but will have to settle for a tie for first with Illinois.
The Spartans scored four runs in the sixth to take a 5-4 lead, but the Wildcats came back with two in the seventh.
Michigan State's players took time to celebrate anyway after their regular-season finale, donning championship hats and shirts and showing off their trophy. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
