|HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
Galesburg High School's baseball team ended up winning third place in their own invitational Saturday, defeating East Peoria in what turned out to be a wild game Saturday, 16-15. The Streaks committed six errors in the fourth inning and also hit into their second triple play of the season. Cody Kukuk hit a two-rum home run in the bottom of the 7th to win it for the Streaks. Pitcher Rebel Schott took the win. In the 5th pace game, Springfield Southeast defeated Aurora East 6-1.
ROWVA is the Abingdon Regional Champion, defeating the host Commandos Saturday 7-6. ROWVA takes on Tremont Wednesday evening in the Bloomington sectional.
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
The Galesburg High School Softball team committed five errors in two games as the lost a double-header with Sterling 9-4 and 9-3 Saturday. Kaylee Mescher took the loss in both games. The Streaks now head to tournament play Tuesday, taking on Canton in the Canton Regional starting at 4:30pm.
The GHS J/V Softball squad ended the season on a losing note, being defeated by Metamora in the second game of a double-header 11-0. The Streaks lost game one 6-5.
A two-run home run in the top of the 9th inning caused Lewistown to lose the IHSA Class 1A regional championship game to Hartem Saturday 6-4.
United took the regional title at Stronghurst Saturday thanks to another strong outing by pitcher Katie Bertelsen, as the Red Storm defeated Abingdon 7-0. Beep Jones took the loss for the Commandos. The Red Storm hosts the sectional round, and will take on Annawan/Wethersfield Wednesday. The Titans defeated ROWVA 4-2 to move on. Stark County will take on Princeville in the other sectional matchup.
HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS
Brandon Meeker is going to State. The GHS tennis star won his sectional matches at the Moline Friday and Saturday, going 27-3 on the season. GHS placed fourth overall as a team, while the host Maroons were the sectional champions. The State finals are at Hersey High School in Arlington Heights Thursday through Saturday.
