Galesburg High School's softball team scored only one run in both games of a double-header with Rock Island Alleman Saturday, losing 11-0, and 13-1, dropping the Streaks to 2-23-1. Katlee Mescher took the lost for the Streaks in game one, while Katie McGee got the loss in game two, giving up 10 earned runs, most of which in the 3rd inning. The Streaks play Monday afternoon at Washington.

GHS' J/V got routed in both games of a double-header versus Rock Island Alleman Saturday, 18-3, and 23-9.


While the GHS Softball teams couldn't get past Rock Island Alleman, the Baseball team got the job done. The Streaks took both games of a double-header with Alleman Saturday 10-2 and 6-4. Cheesman and Drake Sykes picked up the wins.


Monmouth College's bid for their first Midwest Conference title since 1987 ended with a 4-3 loss to St. Norbert in an elimination game. St. Norbert scored two runs with no outs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the come-from-behind win. It was the third one-run game between the two teams this season.


Monmouth College and Grinnell split both games of a double-header Saturday. Grinnell (15-16,9-1 MWC) took the victory in game 1, 18-1, where a school record was set for most RBI's in a game (9 for Mike Nodzenski). In game two, it was close, but the Scots (17-13,6-6 MWC) posted a 9-8 victory.

The Illinois College Blueboys and the Knox College Prairie Fire split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Galesburg. Illinois College won the first game 11-8. The Blueboys broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the fifth inning. The Prairie Fire plated six runs in the bottom of the ninth but came up short. Brian Davenport (5-3) tossed eight sharp innings to earn the win. Paul Mills (1-3) suffered the loss on the mound for Knox. Terry Davis led I.C. with four hits while Brian Boeving had three hits and drove in three runs. David Jewell led the Prairie Fire offense with three RBIs.

Knox snapped a seven game losing streak with a 9-4 triumph in the finale. The Prairie Fire (8-24, 3-9 MWC South) plated three runs in the third inning for a 3-0 lead and scored three more in the fifth for a 7-2 advantage to put the game out of reach. Colin Davis (3-4) tossed a complete game in his final start for Knox. He allowed two earned runs on six hits and struck out five. Drew Mills (2-3) suffered the loss for the Blueboys (16-13, 4-6 MWC South). He departed after just 2 1/3 innings. Logan Willits drove in three runs and Doug Lillibridge homered for Knox.
