| Woods Withdraws...Watney Leads |
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Tiger Woods withdrew from The Players Championship after playing just nine holes and shooting a 6-over-42. After completing the front nine with three bogeys and a triple-bogey, Woods limped off the course and handed his scorecard to playing partner Martin Kaymer. Woods was quoted as saying, ``I'm having a hard time walking.'' Woods was playing for the first time since the Masters and taking time off because of a knee and Achilles' tendon injury.
This is the second straight year Woods has withdrawn in the middle of a round at The Players Championship. He stopped on the seventh hole of the final round last year with what turned out to be a neck injury.
Nick Watney is the tournament's first-round leader after shooting an 8-under-64. Lucas Glover is a stroke back with a 65 and Mark O'Meara and David Toms are two shots behind Watney.
