Local Sports Roundup 5/22/12

It's win or go home for the Galesburg Silver Streaks softball team Tuesday, as they open postseason play at the 3A Rock Island Regional. The Streaks are battling conference rival East Moline.

Class 1A and 2A softball teams still alive are practicing for Wednesday's sectional tournament openers. The Abingdon Commandos host the Sectional in our area, and will play the North Fulton Wildcats Wednesday at 4pm.


In baseball, Galesburg found out who their opponent will be in Wednesday's opener, when Richwoods defeated Central last night in Peoria 10-0. The Streaks and Knights will meet for the fourth time this season Wednesday at 4:30 at Sundburg Field.

In class 1A, the Abingdon Commandos will be bound for Bloomington Wednesday, as the Commandos get ready to play Annawan/Wethersfield in a Sectional semifinal at Illinois Wesleyan University.

Another area high school athlete has made Carl Sandburg College his choice for the fall semester. Josh Joseph of Williamsfield has committed to play baseball for the Chargers. Joseph was an all-conference selection for the Galva/Williamsfield Wildcats in his junior season.
