| Pickneyville Chosen for New Ill. Prep Hoops Hall |
PINCKNEYVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- The Illinois High School Basketball Hall of Fame and Museum is headed to southern Illinois. The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan reports that the hall has signed a deal to build in downtown Pinckneyville at the site of a historic building that was destroyed by a deadly fire last summer. The Foundation for Pinckneyville announced April 4 that they'd teamed with the Engelhardt Family Foundation to buy the property that once was an antique mall and opera house. The blaze last June killed Du Quoin firefighter Corey Shaw. The museum building has been estimated to cost about $1.5 million. It isn't clear when construction will begin or when the hall may open.
