|HIGH SCHOOL TRACK
The Galesburg High School Girls track team placed second at the Western Big 6 Conference meet in East Moline Friday. Rock Island was conference champion, and Moline placed third. The Streaks had five first place finishes including a conference record in the shot put from Myra Diggins with a throw of 42 feet, 6 1/2 inches.
Meantime, the Galesburg boys were settting their own records en route to a 2nd place finish at Geneseo Friday. The Streaks set a new meet record of 8:02.88 in the 4-by-800 meter Relay. Travon Diggins and Demario Walker had personal bests in the Triple Jump, and Will Anderson had a personal best in the high jump. Metamora was the meet champion, followed by Galesburg, Geneseo, Alleman, and Dixon in the top 5.
In the Lincoln Trail Conference girls meet at Monmouth, Annawan/Wethersfield was the conference champion, followed by Mercer County, West Central, ROWVA, Cambridge, Stark County, Princeville, United, and Galva. On the boys side, Mercer County was conference champion, followed by Annawan/Wethersfield, Cambridge, ROWVA, Galva, West Central, Princeville, United, and Stark County.
In the West Central Conference Meet at Macomb, Sherrard was the conference champion on the women's side, Macomb was second, and Monmouth-Roseville was fifth. On the Men's side, Monmouth-Roseville was the conference champion, while Macomb placed second.
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
ROWVA dominated Knoxville 11-1. The Blue Bullets scored their only run in the first inning, while ROWVA was led by a five-run second inning, and scored in every inning but the fourth. Megal Foglesong was the winning pitcher for ROWVA, while Chelsea Lee took the loss for Knoxville.
Rock Island defeated Abingdon 7-5.
The Galesburg girls travel to Rock Island Alleman for a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 11am.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
Friday's freshman baseball game for Galesburg was cancelled due to the field at Canton being underwater.
Galesburg has a double-header with Alleman Saturday.
The Monmouth College softball team is headed for the Midwest Conference championships this weekend. The Fighting Scots will open against St. Norbert Saturday at 10am at Lake Forest College.
The Scots baseball team hosts Grinnell Saturday, while the Knox Prairie Fire will play at Grinnell on Sunday.
