| Muller: Illinois State Coach Job Ideal for Him |
NORMAL, Ill. (AP) -- New Illinois State basketball coach Dan Muller says returning to his alma mater to take over a team with strong talent is an ideal way to start his head-coaching career. Muller was introduced as Illinois State's new coach at a news conference Tuesday. He takes over for Tim Jankovich who left to become an assistant at SMU. Muller comes to Illinois State after spending 12 seasons as an assistant at Vanderbilt. Muller says he's honored to come back to ISU. He is a member of the school's sports hall of fame and as a player led the Redbirds to their last NCAA tournament appearance, in 1998. Muller takes over a team with no seniors that finished 21-14 and lost in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament.
