Former Galesburg Silver Streak Caleb Weaver is among five Knox College baseball players that have been named All-Midwest Conference South Division First Team. Weaver batted .396 with 4 home runs and 39 RBI's this season. Knox head coach Jami Isaacson was also honored as the South Division coach of the year, following a season that saw the Prairie Fire go 22-13 overall, and 13-3 in conference play.
Carl Sandburg College placed four players on the All-Arrowhead Conference Softball Team. One of those was former ROWVA High School standout pitcher Grace Clair. Clair posted a 10-3 record this past season, going 5-0 in conference play with a 1.48 earned run average.
Regional play continues today for several area high school baseball teams. The Abingdon Commandos and the ROWVA Tigers are currently playing at in a semifinal matchup at Monmouth College. The winner will play Ridgewood on Saturday in the championship game, after Ridgewood topped United yesterday 6-2. Other regional matchups today include: Farmington against Annawan/Wethersfield at Brimfield; Stark County versus Midland at Varna; and South Fulton playing Lewistown in Springfield.
The Galesburg Silver Streaks are in Moline this evening, with a non-conference game against the Maroons. The Streaks will then play a pair of games tomorrow at Jim Sundburg Field as part of this weekend's Streaks Classic.
The area's remaining small-school softball teams are preparing for regional championship games to be held on Saturday, including United's game with West Prairie at Monmouth.
The track season is winding down as well, as the GHS boys are competing today at the Macomb Sectional. Meanwhile, the Galesburg girls who qualified for state are in Charleson preparing for the start of tomorrow's Girls State Meet.
