Boys Track:

Galesburg High School qualified for the state meet yesterday in five events: the long jump, triple jump, 4 x 200 medley relay, the 200 meter dash, and the pole vault. The Streaks competed yesterday in the 2A Boys Track Sectional at Macomb.

Will Anderson will represent Galesburg at state in the long jump and in the triple jump. Anderson took first in the long jump at Thursdays sectional meet with leap of 21, 9.5 inches. Anderson was also first in the triple jump.

Travon Diggens is defending state champ in the long jump, but didnt make it this spring because of a left hamstring injury. Diggens will be at state, however in the 4 x 200 relay, along with teammates Eric Oliphant, Ben Holloway, and Josh Eiker. The relay team finished second at the Macomb sectional.

Josh Eiker also qualified for state in the 200, as he finished first in yesterdays sectional with a time of 22.56.

The Streaks Logan Nelson also is going to state. Nelson finished second in the pole vault.

Metamora won the Class 2A Macomb sectional with 91 pts., Normal U-High was second, and Dunlap was third. Galesburg was fourth with 55 pts.

Girls Track:

The Galesburg High School girls track team has two relay teams and a sprinter at the state meet at Charleston this weekend. Delaney Duncan is running in the 100 meter dash after finishing first in last weeks Dunlap Class 2A Girls Track Sectional. Duncan is also on the two relay teams that advanced, the 4 by 400 and the 4 by 200 relay teams. Joining Duncan at the state finals are Becca Ladner, Kailyn Boydstun, Aurora Roberson, and Markesha Harden.

In the Class 1A state finals at Charleston, Knoxville's Paige Putnam advanced to the finals in the discus with a throw of 117' 6". ROWVA's two state qualifiers--Mattie Gardner in the high jump and Kyla Bledsoe in the discus did not make it to today's finals.

Madison Benson from Bushnell/Prairie City/Avon did qualify for the track finals in the shot put, and Ridgewood's Jasmine Jefko also advanced in the shot. Also advancing from Ridgewood were Megan Reed in the triple jump and Molly Smith in the 300 meter low hurdles.

Boys Baseball:

Galesburgs boys baseball team lost at Moline on Thursday 11-0. The Streaks are now 20-9 on the year.

Galesburg will finish its regular season with the Streaks Classic Baseball tournament today and tomorrow. Galesburg is now playing Springfield Southeast, and plays Dunlap at 7:30 tonight. Galesburg then plays E. Peoria at 11:00 on Saturday.

The Streaks begin Regional play at Geneseo next Wednesday, meeting the host Maple Leafs at 6:30. Alleman is the number one seed in the Geneseo regional. Galesburg is seeded second.

In Class 1A:

ROWVA 10, Abingdon 3

The ROWVA Tigers will meet Ridgewood at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow in the regional championship game at United.

In other 1A Regional action:

Stark County 5, Midland 2
Illini Bluffs 6, Peoria Heights 2
South Fulton 10, Lewistown 0 (5 inn.)

College Baseball:

Two Carl Sandburg College men's baseball players were named to the Arrowhead Conference Baseball Team. Shortstop Brian Pflum and pitcher Brendan Butrimas made the all-conference team for Sandburg.


Boys Tennis:

The Galesburg High School boys tennis will be at the Rock Island Tennis Sectional this weekend. Moline will be shooting for its 22nd sectional title in 23 years after the Maroons returned five of six state tennis qualifiers from last years squad.
