The Galesburg High School softball team is in Chillicothe Tuesday looking for an upset as they play the Metamora Redbirds in the class 3A Regional. The Silver Streaks earned the right to play the tournament's top-seed when they blasted Dunlap Monday 15-2. Kaylee Mesecher was the winning pitcher, allowing just two hits, while Chelsey Howard, Bree Brown, and Lizzie Terrill had three hits apiece for the Streaks. Dunlap ended it's season with a 4-24 record, while GHS picked up it's 10th win of the year.
Class 2A Sectional softball is being played in Biggsville Tuesday, where West Central is the tournament host. Sherrard and West Hancock are matched up Tuesday afternoon, while Farmington and Tremont will play there Wednesday.
The Galesburg baseball team is practicing up for Wednesday's regional opener in Geneseo against the homestanding Maple Leafs. The Silver Streaks are the #2 seed in the tourney, and are hoping for a matchup with top seed Rock Island Alleman for the title later this week.
In other baseball this week, the Galva/Williamsfiled Wildcats will meet Illini Bluffs Wednesday in the semifinals of the 1A Bloomington Sectional. The other semifinal has the Ridgewood Spartans playing Eureka.
Knox College outfielder Caleb Weaver has been named an All-Central Region Second Team selection by D3baseball.com. The former Silver Streak led the Fire with a .396 average, four home runs, and 39 runs batted in. He also set new Knox records with 57 hits and 84 total bases, and tied the record for most doubles in a season with 15.
