The Galesburg Silver Streaks baseball team is ready to roll into the championship game of the Geneseo Regional tomorrow. The Streaks will face Western Big-6 Co-Champion Rock Island Alleman in a game scheduled for an 11am start. Galesburg advanced with a 2-1 win over the hosts earlier this week, while Alleman improved to 26-3 with a 7-1 victory over Dunlap.
Also tomorrow, Monmouth College hosts the class 2A Sectional title game as Annawan/Wethersfield will play Eureka. A/W won yesterday's all-Lincoln Trail Conference matchup with Mercer County 7-1.
Meanwhile in class 1A, they will try for the third time to play the semifinal games of the Bloomington Sectional today. Rain has twice washed out the Ridgewood vs. Lexington and Galva/Williamsfield vs. Illini Bluffs matchups. The winners of today's games will play for the championship tomorrow at Illinois Wesleyan University.
The IHSA boys state track meet continues today and tomorrow in Charleston. The Galesburg Silver Streaks are competing in five events in class 2A, including the long jump and triple jump, where Will Anderson took first place honors in the Sectional meet last week in Macomb.
The 1A preliminaries were held yesterday, where Monmouth-Roseville Titan's standout Martel Hunter qualified for the finals in three events, taking first place in two of those. The finals in both classes will be run tomorrow at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
All-Conference picks were announced this morning for Prairieland Conference softball players. The Abingdon Commando's Loren Thurman was a unanimous first team selection, while teammate Katyn Pica Johnson was picked second team for pitchers. Rebecca Stipp of Abingdon made the third team.
Knoxville also had several representatives, including Cheyenne Bragg on the second team, Augusta Sandoval on the third team, and Courney Williams as a special mention for pitchers.
The Carl Sandburg College men's golf team was alone in 12th place following yesterday's third round of the national tournament in Alabama. Coach Ryan Twaddle reports that the team shot a round of 312 yesterday, putting them in position to possibly have the best finish in school history. The Chargers' best previous showing was two years ago, when they finished 14th.
