|HIGH SCHOOL TRACK
Monmouth-Roseville High School's Martel Hunter is a State Champion. Hunter took first place in two events at the IHSA Class 1A State Track Meet Saturday at Eastern Illinois University: the 200 and 400 meter runs, and second in the 100 meter dash. The Titans overall placed second in the state. Sterling Newman was the State Champion in Class 1A. Among other top finishers also in Class 1A, Knoxville's Michael Randall was third in the Long Jump (21 feet, 8.25 inches), ROWVA's John Lawrence placed fourth in the 100 meter dash, and Ridgewood's Aaron Leander placed fourth in the Triple Jump.
In Class 2A, Galesburg's Will Anderson took sixth place in the Long Jump (21 feet, 7 inches). Cahokia was the State Champion.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
Galesburg High School is back at the top of the heap, defeating Western Big 6 Conference foe Rock Island Alleman at the Geneseo Class 3A Regional Championship Saturday 4-3. The Streaks will face either Metamora or Washington on Wednesday. Their game Saturday was suspended due to rain and will be finished Monday in Washington. Peyton Isaacson was the winning pitcher for the now 28-9 Silver Streaks.
Galva/Williamsfield won the Class 1A Bloomington Sectional Championship Saturday, defeating Lexington 8-0. Tyler Doubet got the win, pitching a one-hitter.
The Class 2A Sectional title game at Monmouth College with Kewanee Wethersfield and Eureka was postponed until Monday at 10am.
